Leading Through the Crossroads

To the woman at the crossroads,

Most leadership advice focuses on how to climb. Very few people talk about the moments when you are simply called to stand.

I built Patty Crawford Consulting because I know how heavy those moments can feel. I know the weight of being caught between a career you've poured yourself into and a truth that your conscience won't let you ignore.

Earlier in my career, as the first full-time Title IX Coordinator at Baylor University, I found myself in that exact position. I was offered institutional security in exchange for my silence—a path that would have protected my own interests but left the students I served without a voice.

In that moment, I realized that my job wasn't just to manage a department; it was to hold a space of safety for others. I made the difficult decision to step away and speak the truth publicly, believing that no leader should ever prioritize their own security over the dignity of their community. I chose to absorb the institutional challenges of that decision so that the survivors I served wouldn't have to carry that burden themselves.

It wasn't an easy road, but it was the right one. In December 2024, a federal report finally brought that truth into the light, confirming that standing for the safety of others is always worth the personal cost.

Today, as federal protections for women and DEI initiatives are being rolled back, many leaders feel like they are standing at their own crossroads. My mission now is to offer you the operational structure and the steady support I once wished I had.
